Consumer Protection

Kiapi K. Freddie made this Access to Information request to Ministry of Trade Industry and Cooperatives (MTIC)

Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, Ministry of Trade Industry and Cooperatives (MTIC) should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Dear Ministry of Trade Industry and Cooperatives (MTIC),

Dear MTIC Team

Greetings from The Commonwealth Association-Uganda (CPAUG@10)

We are requesting for an update about the Consumer Protection and Competition Bill (CPCB) that we got involved in in 2012 but the communication died there then.

We need a CPCB to be past before the end of the 9th Parliament term. Its been long over due since 2002 to date.

Yours faithfully,

Kiapi K. Freddie

Ministry of Trade Industry and Cooperatives (MTIC)

Hullo,
First, Cabinet approved the Consumer Protection and Competition Policy
on November 26th, 2014.
The Bill was divided into two - The Competition Bill and The Consumer
Protection Bill so they are two Bills now.
The Principles for the two Bills were submitted to Cabinet and we are
still waiting for Cabinet approval. Without it we cannot proceed to
submit the Bills to Cabinet.
This is a process for which we do not have total control.

Regards

Khadija
