Defence Procurement Process

Melanie made this Access to Information request to Ministry of Defence / Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF)

Ministry of Defence / Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) does not have the information requested.

From: Melanie

Dear Ministry of Defence / Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF),

I am currently researching the different ways in which Defence Ministries/Governments operate their defence procurement process. I want to try to identify which milestones are common amongst all countries.

In order to do this, I would be grateful if you could help me by sending me details of the major milestones for your current defence procurement process.

The purpose of my request is to improve the quality and depth of information that we currently hold. Whilst we maintain much of the data already, it isn’t classified against any specific event or milestone. We are looking for input from industry and governments so we can establish the most appropriate/common event types in a programme’s life cycle.

The initial review is to be completed by mid-October with final completion due end-October.

If you could also tell me the terminology you use for each stage/decision in the acquisition process, that would be much appreciated.

Basically I am trying to find out the major milestones for each country, typically where decisions are made. Here at Jane’s we hold a great deal of temporal data around equipment lifecycles and contracts and I am trying to standardise all of these terms and recognise where there are similarities or definitions which mean the same thing.

I understand that each country is slightly different so if you have any documents of terms you use or the process you use as a whole, that would be absolutely brilliant!

If you cannot help me I would be most grateful if you could point me in the direction of someone who can.

Many thanks in advance and I will look forward to hearing from you soon.

If you would like to know more, please don’t hesitate to give me a call.

Kind regards

Yours faithfully,

Melanie
