Privacy and Data Protection Bill 2014

Godfrey made this Access to Information request to Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (MoICT)

Waiting for an internal review by Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (MoICT) of their handling of this request.

From: Godfrey

Dear Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (MoICT),

Greetings

Around the month of November 2014 to 12th December 2014, the ministry in collaboration with NITA-U sought pubic views on the draft Privacy and Data Protect law that was in the offing.

While views were submitted, little if any, is know of the fate of the promised law. This is cognizant of the need to protect the right to privacy and personal data that has been or still being collected by various state agencies, and private companies like the Telecommunication companies during the SIM card registration.

This is therefore to seek be availed the following;

a. a copy of the BILL (in its current form) and if the process is still dragging;

b. reasons as to why the BILL is not yet out; and

c. when does the ministry expect to table it before parliament, bearing in mind the national ID process and voter details, all information being held by and may be subject to breach in especially this era where there are no data protection and privacy guidelines and legally binding assurances.

Hoping to get a positive response from you

Yours faithfully,

GT
